AWM 21894

AWM 21894, PVC Jacketed Multi-Conductor Appliance Wiring Material, Sunlight and Oil Resistant

UL AWM Style 21894 looks like 2103 on the drawing and behaves differently in service. Same multi-conductor build, same 105°C and 300 Vac, same extruded PVC jacket, but the jacket wall starts at 30 mils instead of 15, the compound is required to be oil resistant to 60°C and sunlight resistant, and the style is listed for external wiring rather than internal. That combination is what makes it useful on a machine that sits outdoors or in a wash-down area: the cable can be run exposed, in sun, against oil mist, without a conduit or an extra sleeve. Jacket thickness runs from 30 mils minimum average up to 80 mils on a 38 to 63 mm cable, with minimum at any point at 80 percent of those figures. If the run stays inside the cabinet, 2103 does the same job on a thinner jacket for less money; if it goes outside, 21894 is the one that carries the markings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this flexible power cable

External use and a heavier jacket. 21894 is rated for external wiring with mandatory 60°C oil resistance and sunlight resistance, and its jacket starts at 30 mils average instead of 15. 2103 is an internal wiring style with a thinner jacket.

30 mils minimum average up to 17.8 mm diameter, 45 mils from 17.8 to 25.4 mm, 60 mils from 25.4 to 38.1 mm and 80 mils from 38.1 to 63.5 mm. Minimum at any point is 80 percent of the average figure.

Yes, that is the point of the sunlight resistant requirement. The cable can be exposed to sun and weather without conduit, at 105°C conductor temperature and with oil resistance to 60°C.

Two or more conductors from 30 AWG to 10 AWG, as singles, twisted pairs, groups or a parallel lay in flat, oval or round form. Shield and fillers are optional.

External wiring on machinery, outdoor control panels, pumps and lighting gear, and any run where the cable leaves the enclosure and has to survive weather and oil. Approvals are UL and cUL to UL 758.
