H05V-K, H05V2-K, H07V-K, H07V2-K, PVC Insulated Single Core Flexible Cords

These four are the single core panel wires: H05V-K and H05V2-K at 300/500V, H07V-K and H07V2-K at 450/750V, all built to EN 50525-2-31, the standard that replaced DIN VDE 0281-3 and 0281-7. The designation reads in three parts. The 05 or 07 sets the voltage class. The V marks PVC insulation, and the second V2 marks a heat resistant PVC compound good for 90°C instead of the 70°C of the plain V grade. The -K at the end is class 5 finely stranded copper, which is why the wire bends inside a panel without springing back; a -U would be a single solid strand and a -R a coarser class 2 stranding. There is no sheath on any of them, so they go inside enclosures, trunking and conduit, never clipped to a wall in the open and never used as a trailing lead. H05V-K and H05V2-K cover 0.5 mm², 0.75 mm² and 1.0 mm², with 1.5 mm² and 2.5 mm² also made in the 300/500V block for control circuits. H07V-K and H07V2-K start at 1.5 mm² and go up to 240 mm², which is where switchgear, motor starters, relay and instrument panels and rectifier wiring live. The V2 grades turn up wherever a panel runs warm: drive enclosures, lighting gear, heater controls, machine tools. Both grades carry VDE approval, the same constructions are CCC certified as 60227 IEC 06 (RV) and 60227 IEC 08 (RV-90) for the Chinese market, and the conductor is available bare or tinned. Colours follow HD 308 S2, and cut lengths, ferrules and printed markers can be added on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this flexible power cable

The voltage class and the size range. H05V-K is rated 300/500V and is made from 0.5 mm² to 2.5 mm². H07V-K is rated 450/750V and runs from 1.5 mm² to 240 mm². Both are single core class 5 copper with PVC insulation, so the choice comes down to the system voltage and the current, not to the material.

V2 is the heat resistant PVC grade. The plain V insulation is rated 70°C; the V2 compound is rated 90°C, so a panel that runs warm can use a smaller cross section for the same current. The V2 grades also hold their properties longer in enclosures with poor ventilation.

The K is the conductor class: class 5 finely stranded copper to EN 60228. A -U suffix would be a single solid strand, easier to push through long conduit but stiff, and a -R would be class 2 stranding. The K version is the one to pick when the wire has to turn tight corners inside a cabinet.

No. They have insulation only and no sheath, so they belong inside enclosures, trunking and conduit on fixed wiring. They are not rated for repeated flexing, not for trailing across a floor, not for direct burial and not for permanent outdoor exposure. For a flexible supply lead you want a sheathed cord such as H05VV-F or H07RN-F.

The European construction is EN 50525-2-31, which replaced DIN VDE 0281-3 (HD 21.3) for the 450/750V type and DIN VDE 0281-7 (HD 21.7) for the 90°C type. The range is VDE approved and the same wires are CCC certified as 60227 IEC 06 (RV) and 60227 IEC 08 (RV-90) under GB/T 5023.3. Conductors are available bare or tinned to EN 60228.
