Does a Malaysia power cord need SIRIM certification to be sold there?

Yes. The 13 A plug is a regulated product in Malaysia and has to be certified through SIRIM QAS to MS 589, and the finished appliance needs the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) Certificate of Approval. Buyers normally ask for the SIRIM certificate together with the test report.

Is the Malaysian plug the same as the UK plug?

Mechanically the same Type G three-pin body with the fuse inside, and the pin dimensions come from the same origin, but the Malaysian product is certified to MS 589 rather than BS 1363. A cord certified only to BS 1363 is not automatically accepted for the Malaysian market.

What fuse rating should a Malaysian cord carry?

Malaysia uses the 13 A fused Type G plug, the same pin pattern as the UK, built and tested to MS 589 and certified through SIRIM QAS. Mains is 240 V, 50 Hz, so cables and plugs carry a 250 V rating with a BS 1362 fuse in the plug head. We mold the plug on H05VV-F PVC or H05RN-F and H07RN-F rubber cable, in two and three core, and finish the equipment end with an IEC 60320 connector or to your drawing.
