Common questions about UK ASTA 1363/A Power Cords
They are built to BS 1363 / BS 1363/A and use the UK Type G plug with three rectangular pins in a triangular arrangement. Both molded and rewireable plugs are supplied, with ASTA certification.
BS 1363 requires a fuse in the plug so each flexible cord is individually protected. Cords are supplied with 3A, 5A, 7A, 10A and 13A fuses, typically 3A for electronics and 13A for high-power appliances, all rated 250V.
Plugs and cords sold in the UK must comply with BS 1363 and the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations. ASTA (and BEAB) are the recognized approval marks; UKCA applies for Great Britain and CE for Northern Ireland.
They are available with IEC 60320 C5, C7, C13, C15, C19 and C20 connectors, including straight and left/right right-angle C13 versions, and open-end cords, all rated for the 230V, 50Hz UK mains.
Type G is used in the UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Cyprus, Malta and many Gulf and Commonwealth markets, although some require their own safety mark such as PSB or SASO.
BS 1363 plugs include insulated live and neutral pin sleeves, socket shutters, an internal cord grip and the plug-top fuse. These features make Type G one of the safest domestic plug systems and are retained on all molded and rewireable versions.
