What is a European extension cord?

A European extension cord extends a 230/250 V mains connection using CEE 7 Europlug and Schuko connectors, rated from 2.5 A to 16 A for loads up to about 4000 W. Common plugs include the CEE 7/16 Europlug (Type C), CEE 7/17 and the earthed CEE 7/7 Schuko (Type E/F), paired with CEE 7/3 or EU1-16R sockets, built with H03VV-F, H05VV-F, H05RN-F or H07RN-F cable.

What is the difference between Type C and Schuko Type E/F plugs?

The CEE 7/16 Europlug (Type C) is an unearthed, 2.5 A plug for small double-insulated devices and fits most European sockets, while the CEE 7/7 Schuko plug (Type E/F) is earthed and rated up to 16 A for higher-power appliances, with side earth clips for Schuko and a hole for the French earth pin. Use an earthed Schuko cord for appliances requiring protective earth.

Which European countries use these extension cords?

CEE 7 extension cords are used across Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Austria, Poland, Scandinavia and more than 30 European countries, because the Europlug and Schuko/E/F system is shared across the region. Some markets (Denmark, Switzerland, Italy, UK, Ireland) use different national sockets and need country-specific cords.

Are European extension cords available waterproof?

Indoor cords are typically IP20 with PVC H03VV-F/H05VV-F cable; outdoor versions use rubber H05RN-F/H07RN-F cable with IP44 splash-resistant connectors. IP44 protects against solid objects over 1 mm and water splashed from any direction, but it is not dust-tight or submersible; for pressure washing or immersion choose higher-rated industrial connectors.
