Power Cords Supplier, Manufacturer In China

Power Cord Wire End Options: Custom Terminations, Connectors, Receptacles, In-Line Switches & Lamp Holders

A power cord can be customized at both ends: the plug and cable at one end, and the way the other end is finished at the other, from bare stripped conductors and crimp terminals to molded connectors, national sockets, NEMA receptacles and lamp holders. The options below are grouped by 2-core, 3-core, 4-core and 5-core cables, so you can quickly see which terminations match your cord. If you are unsure which option fits your application, send us your device or wiring diagram and our engineers will recommend the correct termination.

Specifying the Wire End

The plug standard, cable construction, length, jacket colour and certification are covered in our step-by-step customization guide. For the wire end itself we need:

  • Termination type: bare stripped (ROJ), semi-strip, tinned, crimp terminal (ring / fork / pin) or a specific connector from this guide
  • Connector or receptacle model: IEC 60320 (C1–C21), NEMA 5-15R / 6-20R / 14-50R, IEC 60309 (2P+E, 3P+E, 3P+N+E), a country socket or a lamp holder (E12 / E14 / E26 / E27 / E40)
  • Core count and conductor size: e.g. 3-core 1.0 mm², so the terminal, gland or clamp matches the cable
  • Strip lengths: outer jacket strip, core strip and any terminal or connector dimensions
  • Accessories: strain relief clamp, PG gland size (PG7–PG21), cord clip, switch or dimmer and its position
  • Target market, certification and quantity: UL, VDE, SAA, PSE, KC or CE, plus packaging requirements

Drawings, photos or a sample cord are always helpful. Our engineering team will confirm the wire end specification and certification before production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this guide

Custom power cords can be terminated with stripped bare ends, crimp terminals (ring/O-type, fork/U-type spade, pin and blade terminals), IEC 60320 connectors (C5, C7, C13, C15, C17, C19 and C21), NEMA straight-blade and locking receptacles (5-15R, 5-20R, L5-30R, TT-30R, 14-50R, L14-30R and SS2-50R), national sockets (CEE 7/3 Schuko, UK BS 1363, Australian AS/NZS 3112) and IEC 60309 industrial connectors in 2P+E, 3P+E and 3P+N+E configurations. The available terminations depend on the number of cores in the cable.

Ring (O-type) terminals form a complete circle around the mounting screw and cannot slide off once the screw is tightened, making them the most vibration-resistant and secure option, ideal for industrial, automotive and permanent installations. Fork (U-type spade) terminals have an open slot that fits around the screw without removing it, allowing faster connection and disconnection during frequent servicing, and are common in control panels and appliances. Choose ring terminals where vibration or accidental loosening is a concern, and fork terminals where quick access during maintenance matters.

The IEC 60320 C13 is a 10A 250V three-core connector commonly used on computers, monitors, printers and office equipment, and accepts a C14 inlet. The C19 is a larger 16A 250V three-core connector designed for high-current equipment such as servers, UPS units, PDUs and large network appliances, and accepts a C20 inlet. The C19 body and pins are visibly larger than the C13. Choose the C13 for equipment rated up to 10A and the C19 for equipment rated above 10A up to 16A.

Yes. Power cords can be manufactured with any combination of plug on one end and connector, receptacle or terminal on the other. Common combinations include NEMA 5-15P to IEC 60320 C13, CEE 7/7 Schuko to C13, AS/NZS 3112 to C5, and plug-to-receptacle extension cords. We can also supply stripped or crimp-terminated ends for direct wiring into equipment. Specify the plug standard, connector type, cable specification, length and certification required for your target market.

For internal wiring where the cord connects directly to screw terminals or a terminal block inside equipment, stripped and tinned bare ends are the simplest and most common option. Ring or fork crimp terminals are recommended where the connection must meet specific safety or vibration requirements, or where the equipment manufacturer specifies terminal lugs. Pre-crimped pin terminals can also be used for pluggable terminal blocks. Always match the conductor size to the terminal rating and use ferrules where stranded wire must be inserted into spring-cage or screw terminals.

Yes. Custom power cords can be certified to UL and cUL for North America, VDE and CE for Europe, SAA and RCM for Australia and New Zealand, PSE for Japan and KC for Korea, depending on the plug and cable standards used. The certification applies to the complete cord set including both terminations. When ordering, specify the destination country so the cord is built using certified plugs, connectors and cable harmonized to that market, such as SPT/SVT/SJT for North America, H05VV-F/H07RN-F for Europe or 4V-75 for Australia.

Yes. For lighting cords the free end is often finished with a screw lamp holder instead of a connector or receptacle. We supply E12 and E26 bases for North America, E14 and E27 for Europe and most other markets, and E40 for large high-wattage lamps, on 2-core round, flat or braided cable. Lamp holders are frequently combined with an in-line rocker switch, a push-button switch or a rotary dimmer on the same cord set, so one cord can switch and hold the lamp. Specify the bulb base, lamp wattage and switch type when ordering.
