Is this Swiss waterproof plug IP55 or IP44?

IP55. The 2019 Swiss standard SN 441011 introduced the IP55 plug and socket-outlet system and replaced the earlier IP44 versions, which are only partly compatible and are being phased out. This cord uses the IP55 Type 11 plug.

What does IP55 actually protect against?

Dust protection (IP5X, dust-protected rather than dust-tight) and protection against water jets from any direction (IPX5). It is rated for rain, hose-down and wash-down areas, not for being immersed in water.

Is the IP55 rating valid on its own, or does the socket matter?

Both parts count. IP55 in use requires an IP55 socket-outlet; the plug body itself stays dust-protected and jet-resistant, but a standard IP20 socket leaves the joint exposed. Indoors in dry areas a normal socket is fine.

What rating and cable does the Type 11 cord carry?

10A 250V, two conductors with no earthing contact, on H03VVH2-F, H05VVH2-F, H05VV-F, H05RN-F or H05RR-F from 0.75mm² to 1.0mm². It is meant for Class II double-insulated appliances only.

Which appliances use a sealed Type 11 cord?

Outdoor lighting, pond and garden pumps, cleaning equipment, garden tools and other double-insulated appliances that get splashed. If the appliance has a metal case needing a protective earth, use the Type 13 version instead.
