The inlet or the receptacle is factory fitted to the enclosure, so the installer only brings the feeder to the terminals inside. Cover, gasket and plugged cable entries are supplied with the box.

A generator power inlet box puts the connection point on the outside wall instead of running a cord through a window or a door. The male inlet faces out, the generator cord plugs into it, and the wiring behind the box runs to a transfer switch or a panel inside the building.
This one carries a NEMA L14-30P inlet, the 30 amp locking four-wire configuration. Two 120V legs, a neutral and a ground reach the panel, so a house on a 30 amp generator keeps its 240V well pump or dryer circuit as well as the lighting circuits. The locking collar keeps the cord seated while the generator runs.
Houses with a portable generator and a transfer switch, workshops, food trailers and small shops on standby power. The four-wire inlet suits any 30 amp generator that brings out two legs plus neutral, which is most of them above the smallest sizes.
Mount the box on an outside wall within reach of the generator cord and as close to the panel as the run allows, then run the feed inside the wall. Never make up a cord with two male ends for this job: the inlet box exists so that no live male plug is ever exposed.
Before the first start, check the cover gasket and the cable entries, and confirm the inlet is wired to the transfer switch rather than to a breaker that can backfeed the mains.
ETL listed. Samples are available, production runs start at 200 to 1000 pieces with 15 to 20 working days after the order and artwork are confirmed, and private label covers the enclosure label and the packing.
Common questions about 30 Amp Generator Power Inlet Box, NEMA L14-30P
To a transfer switch or a panel inside the building. The four wires cross the wall and land on a breaker or on the transfer switch input, so the generator supplies the house circuits without a live cord running through a doorway.
A NEMA L14-30R outlet on the generator, over a four-wire 30 amp cord. That is the usual 30 amp locking outlet on portable sets, so the cord is easy to find and the plug twist locks into the box.
It can, because the L14-30 inlet carries two 120V legs and a neutral, so a 240V circuit can be built from it. Whether it should depends on the pump circuit and the generator size: starting current on a pump is several times the running current, and the 30 amp inlet caps the total draw.
The box itself is a wiring enclosure with no overcurrent device. Protection belongs at the transfer switch or the panel, so the conductors from the box are protected at the point they land, not at the wall.
On an outside wall, screwed through the pre-drilled holes with the cover facing away from the weather, and with the cable entries plugged until the feeder is run. Site it within the reach of the generator cord and close to the panel to keep the concealed run short.
