The inlet or the receptacle is factory fitted to the enclosure, so the installer only brings the feeder to the terminals inside. Cover, gasket and plugged cable entries are supplied with the box.

The 50 amp inlet box carries a NEMA SS2-50P inlet. SS2-50 is the ship-to-shore configuration: 50 amp, 125/250V, three poles and four wires, with a threaded ring that locks the connector against vibration.
Two 120V legs and a neutral cross the wall to the panel, so the standby side can carry the heavier loads a 50 amp set is bought for. The connector is the same shell used on 50 amp shore cords, so cords and adapters for it are already easy to find.
Whole-house standby installations on a 50 amp portable generator, larger workshops, marinas and yards where a 50 amp shore cord is already the standard lead, and any building where the inlet has to accept a heavy cord without working loose.
The generator lead has to be a 50 amp cord with an SS2-50R connector, sized for the run. A 30 amp cord will not seat, and an adapter in the middle of a 50 amp feed adds a joint that has to be rated for the current.
Seat the ring by hand and check it again after the first run. Then confirm the feed lands on a breaker rated for the conductors, not on a main lug that can be live from either side.
ETL listed. Samples are available, production runs start at 200 to 1000 pieces with 15 to 20 working days after the order and artwork are confirmed, and private label covers the enclosure label and the packing.
Common questions about 50 Amp Generator Power Inlet Box, NEMA SS2-50P
50 amp 125/250V feeds with a twist lock connector. It is the ship-to-shore configuration, so the same inlet appears on 50 amp shore cords, on large generators and on buildings wired for a 50 amp standby set.
A four-wire 50 amp cord with an SS2-50R connector at the box end and the matching connector for the generator at the other end. Keep the cord as short as the distance allows, because the voltage drop on a 50 amp run shows up at the far end under load.
The connector comes from the marine shore power world, so the configuration itself is common on boats. Whether a particular installation is suitable depends on the enclosure, the location and the local rules for shore power connections.
Yes for a building supply. The inlet is only the connection point; a transfer switch or an interlock keeps the generator and the utility from meeting, and that device also carries the overcurrent protection for the conductors leaving the box.
