Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about IEC 60320 C1 Power Cords Connector

The C1 connector and C2 inlet form a 2-pole, unearthed IEC 60320 coupler rated up to 2.5 A at 250 V and 70 C. It is one of the earliest and least common IEC couplers, historically used on small double-insulated (Class II) appliances where no protective earth is required, and it has largely been superseded by the C7/C8 figure-8 coupler.

Both are 2-pole unearthed, 2.5 A couplers for Class II equipment, but the C1/C2 is an older, uncommon outline while the C7/C8 figure-8 connector is the widely adopted modern equivalent used on TVs, routers and chargers. New designs almost always specify C7/C8 rather than C1/C2.

No. The C1/C2 coupler has only two current-carrying contacts and no earth pin, and it is rated 2.5 A at 250 V. It is therefore suitable only for low-power double-insulated devices and must not be used where an equipment protective earth is required.

A C2 inlet is a small two-slot, non-polarized rectangular inlet on an older Class II device, distinct from the figure-8 shape of a C8 inlet and the three-slot triangular C6/C14 inlets. If the device is still in service, confirm the rating plate and replace the cord with a correctly rated C1 or modern C7 equivalent.

Yes. We can produce C1/C2 cord sets or, more commonly for new products, the C7/C8 equivalent, with the required regional wall plug, cable length and color under UL, VDE or other certification. Contact us with the device rating; MOQ is 200-1000 pieces and samples are available in 7-15 days.
