Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about IEC 60320 C13 Power Cords Connector

The C13 is a 3-pole earthed female cord connector rated 10 A at 250 V (up to 15 A under some 125 V approvals) with a 70 C temperature rating. It is one of the most common IEC connectors and powers desktop PCs, monitors, printers, servers, network switches and many bench-top instruments by plugging into a C14 appliance inlet.

A C13 cord is often called a kettle lead, but true high-temperature appliances use the C15 connector. The C13 is rated to 70 C and fits a C14 inlet; the C15 is rated to 120 C and has a notch. A C13 cord can physically enter many C14 inlets but should not be used on genuine high-heat kettles that require C15/C16.

The C13 is the female connector on the free end of the power cord, while the C14 is the male inlet mounted on the equipment. A complete cord set runs from a regional wall plug (such as NEMA 5-15P or Schuko) to the C13 connector, which then plugs into the device C14 inlet.

For 10 A service a 1.0 mm2 (18 AWG) or heavier conductor is typical, with 0.75 mm2 (18 AWG) common at lower currents. The wall-plug end is selected by country: NEMA 5-15P for the USA/Canada, CEE 7/7 for Europe, BS 1363 for the UK or AS/NZS 3112 for Australia, all terminated to the same C13 connector.

Yes. Our C13 cord sets carry UL/cUL, ETL or VDE certification and are available with custom lengths, jacket colors, right-angle or locking C13 connectors and strain relief. MOQ is generally 200-1000 pieces, samples take 7-15 days and bulk production 15-20 working days.
