Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about IEC 60320 C15 Power Cords Connector

The C15 is a 3-pole earthed female connector rated 10 A (up to 15 A at 125 V) for a 120 C hot condition, versus 70 C for the C13. It has a distinctive notch opposite the earth that the lower-temperature C13 lacks, and it mates with the C16 inlet on heat-generating equipment.

Appliances such as electric kettles, immersion heaters, coffee machines, stage lighting and some servers run hot enough that the coupler must withstand 120 C. The C15/C16 'hot condition' rating and its keyway prevent an under-rated 70 C C13 cord from being used, enforcing the safer high-temperature connection.

A C15 connector will usually plug into a standard C14 inlet because the extra ridge sits outside the C14 profile, but a C13 cannot fit a notched C16 inlet. This deliberate keying ensures that only the heat-rated C15 cord can be used where a C16 hot-condition inlet is fitted.

C15A (sometimes called the high-temperature or extra-notch variant) adds a second keyway for even hotter or more demanding equipment and is often seen on stage/entertainment power and certain Cisco-style gear. Standard C15 covers most kettles and heaters; confirm whether the inlet requires the C15A extra notch before ordering.

Yes. We manufacture C15/C16 cord sets with heat-resistant cables (such as silicone or high-temp PVC/rubber jackets), NEMA, Schuko or BS wall plugs and UL/cUL, ETL or VDE certification, in custom lengths and colors. MOQ is 200-1000 pieces with 7-15 day samples.
